We pick you up from Knysna or Plettenburg Bay and take you to an area known as The Craggs where you will visit Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, The Elephant Sanctuary and Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre,
Monkey Land
Monkeyland is the world’s first free roaming, multi-species primate sanctuary. Here you will take a one hour guided tour through the 12km Sanctuary where around 400 apes, monkeys and lemurs live and play. You will learn about the primates and the threats they are facing from the decline of the natural environment.
Birds of Eden
Birds of Eden is the largest free flight aviary in the world. Here you are free to roam around the 2.3 km enclosure and walk over 1,5 km of walkway suspended high above the ground with about 3000 birds of around 200 species going about their business perching in trees, flying around, and eating, including touracos, barbets, parrots, parakeet, waterfowl, flamingos, starlings, robins, cranes, and giant fruit bats. There are also small primates such as cottontop tamarins, golden-handed tamarins and bushbabies.
Elephant Sanctuary
The Elephant Sanctuary is a “halfway house” for young African Elephants in need of a home. Here you will learn a lot about elephant habits, behaviour and anatomy. Get up close to touch and feed the elephant as well as leading the elephant for a walk with it’s trunk in your hand.
Tenikwa
Wildlife Awareness Centre: Here you will get to meet captive-bred furry felines. You will take a one-hour tour and see a variety of cats including cheetah, Leopard, African Wild Cats, Servals, Caracal and the rare Black-Footed Cat. It is also possible sometimes to stroke some of the cats if the guide decides it’s safe to do so.
