Kloofing

Kloofing is the afrikaans word for ravine/gorge kloofing, or canyoning as its called in other parts of the world. It involves following a mountain stream by swimming, scrambling, jumping and climbing and walking. kloofing can be dangerous as you cant tell if the water is 1m deep or 10m deep because of the cola coloured water in the western cape, which is why kloofing is the best when you are led by an experienced guide. Because kloofing involves getting wet, wetsuits are provided for warmth, floatation and protection, kloofing is also seasonal, we operate this trip between the lst october and finish at the end of April.

The Trip

We pick you up from your Bed and Breakfast or hotel then take a scenic drive up the Phantom pass and on up into the Outeniqua mountains and indigineous forest, where we begin our hike down into the gorge where there are also stalagmites and stalagtites up to a million years old. From here we squeeze into wetsuits and have a safety briefing on the do’s and donts in the gorge. We begin by jumping into the first blackwater pool we begin a relaxed swim up to the first waterfall and jumping point, where there are jumps from 2 metres. After your challenge of jumping, we swim again through the narrowest part of the gorge which is only 2 metres wide and 60 metres high then continue scrambling rocks and boulders and swimming on to our destination point, the big one an 18 metre jump for the adrenaline junkies. Here we will also stop for packed lunch and enjoy the untouched surroundings and relax before our return. The action of your adventure will be caught  on the camera by us so you won’t have to risk yours.
